I love how you have crazy quilts coming out the ears in your family, you have some relatives with some good taste (apple doesn't fall far from the tree, haha)! I've seen tons of quilts around, but not a lot of crazy ones-- I hope that changes in the future, and how! :)Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16842611749073935723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-9745165794377061212013-12-10T14:52:00.948-06:002013-12-10T14:52:00.948-06:00Haha, I encourage your inner-family theft, Mr. Tin...Haha, I encourage your inner-family theft, Mr. Tiny and Rae! We have no such amazing quilt in my family. Matthew's Memaw in Missouri (how's that for alliteration?) has a beautiful postage stamp quilt her mother made sometime in the fifties'-- the WORK that went into those things! And I think about any hobby you could have in 2013 has gone beyond nerdy back into really neat again-- there's a lot of work put into these quilts. Are you not haunted by that first crazy quilt lady's story on this page though? SHE GOT IT FOR LIKE THREE DOLLARS. Live in hope, right? Thanks for telling me more about the (realistic) collectors' field, though, I really am interested now!!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16842611749073935723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-86374270514686121522013-12-10T14:48:39.507-06:002013-12-10T14:48:39.507-06:00I asked a woman in Goodletsville (here in town) wh...I asked a woman in Goodletsville (here in town) who told me to bring in my quilt top and she could estimate a price on adding a backing, but I thought "I may be too cheap to have this done" and balked, temporarily, for fear of being embarrassed in the store when she says it'll be like $100. There was a commercial outfit in East Nashville (WAAAY back before it became hip) where my grandma would get her quilt tops quilted-and-batted, but it's probably turned into an artists' collective by now. :pLisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16842611749073935723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-67846556640313682952013-12-10T14:46:58.332-06:002013-12-10T14:46:58.332-06:00Haha, I hope you find a non-shabby chic version of...Haha, I hope you find a non-shabby chic version of your buffet cabinet with a beautiful original finish, too! My dad owns two, my mother owns one, and my grandmother had at least one, if not more when she owned and operated a hotel. It's so interesting to now get some perspective on them!

The Seattle story is really touching!

xoxo
-JaneyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-53415940961641403412013-12-03T18:38:24.445-06:002013-12-03T18:38:24.445-06:00I love crazy quilts! My sister inherited one from my grandmother that was made in the 1930's ( a late comer to the crazy quilt party to be sure, but made with awesome 30's prints)! It has all of the hallmarks, irregular patches, embroidery, etc. and every time I see it, I am tempted to steal it...wouldn't that be crazy?!?!?! Did you see the documentary on Gee's Bend quilts? They are incredible - sort of primitive/modern works of art!Mr. Tinyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16646297018044505890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-73635969885463295022013-12-03T17:47:34.214-06:002013-12-03T17:47:34.214-06:00Thank you so much for these great pictures. I took classes, I made them, I was the secretary of the local chapter of a quilting guild. Some twenty-somethings go to bars; I bought nicer sewing machines and went to quilt classes and learned hand embroidery. SUPER NERDY. At any rate...quilts are expensive because the collector's market still has money for them. However, they are less super-expensive than they used to be...I feel like they peaked about 8-10 years ago and you can get some really prime examples for less than what they used to pull if you are looking. Still. You will rarely find them in the $20-30 range unless you are getting a really great estate sale deal...which happens, from time to time. I still love quilts, although my obsession with learning to make them has definitely passed....Lauren Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07627148276337482413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1978925481748522797.post-64262196011848871012013-12-03T13:53:27.804-06:002013-12-03T13:53:27.804-06:00These are beautiful.
